Great South Adventure Tours - Trip One
Stargazing ; Route 62 ; Wine Farms - Round Trip 3000kms
Trip Price – 115 Euros Per Day
All our trips start in Johannesburg. Departure time depends on the distance that we will
travel in one day. We will either travel to Colesberg or Richmond (One of only 20 book towns in the world) today. Day two is an early rise for Sutherland (Largest telescope in the southern hemisphere). Breakfast will be in Three Sisters. Arrival in Sutherland will be approximately 13H00. This gives us enough time to unpack before we leave for the 15H00 visits to the Observatory.
The observatory is 15kms out of the town. After an indoor presentation we will be able to see the SALT telescope and various others from up close. Dinner will be at the Sutherland Hotel and for those interested, night viewing at the Observatory can be arranged. On day four, after breakfast and sightseeing in Sutherland we’ll leave for Worcester and Robertson.
On route we’ll stop at one of the many wine farms and in Robertson have lunch at Klipdrift. This is a brandy distiller. Should you wish you could do their brandy tour. From Robertson our travels will take us to Montagu and on towards Route 62.
This is a picturesque route. We cannot travel on this road without stopping at the famous Ronnie’s Sex Shop. This started as a bar/restaurant. Ronnie’s friends one night decided to change the boring name of Ronnie’s shop. They added the word sex and ever since it stayed. In Barrydale at the Country Pumpkin restaurant we’ll be greeted with a glass of sherry.
Here you can purchase route 62 wings or sheriffs badges. Then over the pass to Outshoorn, where we’ll stay over. On day three, should you choose, we can visit the Cango Caves and one of the many Ostrich Farms in the area. From here we will travel through Meiringspoort.
This is one of the most beautiful places in South Africa and a firm favourite of your guides. From here on to Beaufort West and Kimberley. We’ll stay over in Kimberley, the home of the Big Hole. This is the biggest man made hole in the world. Kimberley is best known for its famous diamonds. On our last day after breakfast we’ll leave for Johannesburg.
